I'm so excited that Super Bowl champion Hines Ward, my favorite Steeler for a couple of reasons. will be making an appearance on “The Walking Dead”!

Ward will be starring in the zombie apocalypse show in the second half of season three. On Monday, Jan. 28, The Evening Sun spoke with Ward about his experience on set:

“The show is so popular, and I thought it would be so cool, so I agreed.” Hines Ward tells the source. “And I had a blast doing it. It was an amazing experience.” Fans can check out a picture of the zombified, or ‘walkerfied’ if you prefer, star above.

“Just being in makeup preparing me for my role was cool. I actually scared myself when I looked in the mirror for the first time after,” Ward continued.

"A former Georgia teammate of mine is one of the stars of the show, and my agent thought it would be something fun and different for me to do," Mr. Ward said.

A good part of the show is shot on location in rural Georgia. Yet there is another strong Pittsburgh connection to "The Walking Dead" -- executive producer Greg Nicotero.

Ward is sure living every fans dream. The former Steeler receiver also had a cameo in “The Dark Knight Rises.” If you missed it, he’s the running football player that survives Bane’s attack in the stadium.

“The Walking Dead” season 3 will return to AMC on February 10 with episode 9, “The Suicide King.”
