Congratulations go out to Darius Rucker, who received an honorary doctorate of music at his Alma mater, the University of South Carolina over the weekend.

Darius was one of the speakers at the Saturday morning commencement, recalling his time at USC where he formed Hootie & Blowfish with three fellow students in 1986. In his speech, Darius described living in the Moore men’s residence hall, singing Billy Joel alone in a shower that he jokingly described “as a big prison bathroom” with six showerheads and no curtain. He also encouraged students to make the most out of their education, saying, “I want you to take time, take some real time [and] find something that makes you want to give ‘til it hurts.” Source: The State

Schools released the following statement in response to the video: “The district is aware of the video and we are currently addressing the situation. As a district with a motto of Engaging Hearts and Minds we focus on building positive relationships with students and designing engaging work that is meaningful. We want our students and teachers to be engaged, but the method by which the student expressed his concern could have been handled in a more appropriate way. We are and will continue to be open to listening to students.”

Catawba County middle school teacher has been suspended with pay after being accused of secretly videotaping down the shirts of female students.

WBTV reported that Scott William Grantham, 50, was arrested on Friday on two counts of felony secret peeping.
Grantham is an English as Second Language teacher at Arndt Middle School.

Dash cam video released from Middlefield OH police shows a man shooting at police with an assault rifle during a traffic stop in March.

According to police, officers pulled over James Gilkerson, 42, of Mentor-on-the-Lake, on March 10 for failing to stop at an intersection.

The video shows Gilkerson getting out of the car and firing an AK-47-style rifle at the police officers.
Officers Erin Thomas and Brandon Savage were injured by gunfire. Thomas was shot in the hand. Savage was able to fire back and kill Gilkerson.

If you've checked your Facebook or email this week, you might have been treated to a surprising story of how "Ducky Dynasty" patriarch Phil Robertson has been fighting the network that airs his show regarding frequent uses of prayer and guns. Mainly, the story says that Phil has taken a stand against A&E in order to keep the two topics in the show.
 
But while the story may endear fans to Phil and the clan even more, information uncovered says the entire thing just isn't true.

There's nothing to it, family member and Phil's oldest (and non-bearded ) son Alan Robertson tells TheBlaze. "The rumor that A&E told the Robertsons to tone down guns and prayer is not true," Alan said in an email, adding the description of "false" to the chatter. "We continue to partner with A&E to make a great tv show that reflects our family's values."
